Goodbye Windows 7
Its time to say goodbye to an old friend.
It has been a friend that all of us have had for the past 10 years. It rescued all of us from Vista – and we are eternally grateful for that. Yes, I’m talking about Windows 7.
Regardless of how much we have liked Windows 7, on January 14th, 2020, this beloved operating system goes end of life. This means that Microsoft will no longer provide security updates or support PCs installed with Windows 7. Start your countdown, we have about 365 days from now.
What now?
If this is new news to you, several questions could potentially be popping at this moment…
The most leading question would be, “Will Windows 7 just stop working?”
Not at all. Windows 7 will continue to operate – it simply won’t get those patches that Microsoft publishes on the 2nd or 4th Tuesday of the month. This might not seem like a big deal, but if you use an internet connected computer – this is a very big deal. Here’s why;
Hackers, scammers, people with malicious intent, or simply, the bad guys will watch what security updates (patches) Microsoft will release for the remaining active operating systems (Windows 8, 8.1, and 10). Because these newer operating systems are similar to Windows 7, these patches will get applied, but not to Windows 7 – and the bad guys will then have a security hole to potentially exploit on any Windows 7 computer.
You need to take action!
If you are running Windows 7, you are among hundreds of thousands who are in the same boat. That means you need to plan your upgrade right now. Make peace with Windows 7 and move to Windows 10. It might mean an in-place upgrade, where you simply upgrade your existing computer to Windows 10 or it could mean you have an older computer and its time to purchase a new one with Windows 10. Regardless of your decision, we are here to help – just don’t wait until the end of the year. Lots of people are in your shoes and will need help too. Unfortunately, there are only so many days left, and space is limited. Give us a call and we can get you on the upgrade schedule!
